How Does Organized Crime Fit Into the Theories of Crime and Murder

I am new to your podcast. I listened to the episode regarding the increase crime statistics with interest regarding the theories for the causes of murder and the stressors. I was wondering where organized crime falls into these theories. As there have been a rise of smash and grab incidents in California where organized crime elements appear to have decided to take advantage of certain decrmininalization approaches, how would these actions be explained by theories of criminology?
